about

High School was a short lived band, active in San Francisco from about 2005-2007. The lineup at that time was Courtney Kimball on vocals, Lauren Shapiro on rhythm guitar & backing vocals, David Scharf (smells like barf!) on lead guitar, Jenny Angelillo (of Neighborhood Brats fame) on bass and Ethan Shapiro on drums. Their live shows were often accompanied by bake sales boasting only the finest in cupcakes, brownies and Muddy Buddies this side of the Colorado River. They each gained about 15 pounds getting high on their own supply as the drugheads of the Bay Area weren’t keen on baked goods at midnight on a Saturday. The band went out in a blaze of whip-it balloons and cookie crumbs at Annie’s Social Club (RIP) in October 2007.

13 years later during the Covid lockdown, Ethan, with too much time on his hands and a stupid memory for songs he has written began recording everything he could remember, aided by Courtney’s composition book, a Telecaster guitar and an iMac. Some songs had to be reimagined, one new song HAD to be written and nearly everything had to be re-recorded as his original GarageBand skeletons left much to be sonically desired.

3 years later, this final product has been realized, featuring the comical stylings of Courtney Kimball on vocals, Kevin Preston (The Skulls, Prima Donna) on lead guitar, Roger Biersborn (Don Juan y Los Blancos, Los Quinceneros) on bass, Luis Herrera (Rough Kids, Cast Of Thousands) on drums, and Ethan Shapiro (Rough Kids, Form Rank) on rhythm guitars. Backup vocals courtesy of Lauren Shapiro, Jayna Swartzman and Laura Rigby.

Massive thanks to everyone involved in making this and like Nardwuar always says “Rah-Rah-Sis-Boom-Bah!”… or something like that? We were never good with quotes.
